Baldwin Super Smash Bros. esports team fell to Pocono Mountain West 3-2 in the first round of playoffs on Wednesday. 

The opponents did well at picking up on behaviors early on, which led them to being so close with Baldwin, senior Zach Czapko said. 

Sophomore Max Bellas said Pocono Mountain West was able to counter Baldwin’s moves well.

“They did everything to counter me when I tried, which I felt they did pretty good at,” Bellas said. 

Despite the loss, Bellas said Czapko had a great performance in his last Super Smash Bros game.

“He won our two games and he carried the team as long as he could,” Bellas said. 

Czapko pointed out sophomore Christian Hritz’s performance during the match.

“He was actually really close to winning his game and he competed against a really good player,” Czapko said. “He’s only a sophomore, so he’s got a really bright future ahead of him.” 

Czapko reflected on the team’s season coming to an end.

“We finished off 16th, so not bad at all,” Czapko said. “I’ve been with the program since it started and it was really a fun ride.”
