The Baldwin flag football team lost their game against Peters Township on Wednesday, 20-14.
Freshman Nicole Gruntz said that this loss was especially disappointing due to how close the game was.
“During the first three quarters, we were winning and playing really well,” Gruntz said. “But then in the fourth quarter, they got one touchdown along with the extra point. That’s how they got their lead, and we didn’t have enough time to catch up.”
Gruntz added that Peters had a good game defensively.
“I think their defense was better than their offense. They were just really good at getting the ball, getting interceptions, and guarding us,” Gruntz said.
Despite the challenge Peters’ defense posed against Baldwin, Gruntz believed the Highlander offense still performed well.
Specifically, Gruntz noticed strong performances from senior Ava Da’Gostino, who attends South Park but plays for Baldwin, and sophomore Carmen Jaquay, who got a touchdown for Baldwin.
Gruntz said the team will look to improve their defense for their next game.
“I think it’s definitely something we could work on a bit,” Gruntz said.
Baldwin’s next game is at home against McKeesport on Friday, with kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
