The girls lacrosse team lost to Latrobe 8-6 in their first away game of the season.
“I think Latrobe did really well with communicating, and their long passes were good,” freshman Arabelle Eynon said.
During the game, Eynon believes the Highlanders could have performed better, and the girls need improvement before their next game.
“We did pretty well in the game. But to be ready for the next game, we definitely need to work on stick work,” Eynon said. “Every time we had the ball, we would lose it because the other team was able to take it from us.”
Scoring for Baldwin were senior Olivia O’Malley with four goals and senior Taylor Hucic and junior Namrata Rai with one each.
O’Malley was a standout not only as a great player but also in her leadership and attitude, Eynon said.
“Oliva got most of our goals, but she was also super uplifting even when we were losing; she just knows what to say to help the team,”Eynon said.
Senior Lexie Iwaniuk complimented Hucic for her contributions, coming back from injury.
“I think Taylor Hucic played well for Baldwin. It was her first game back, and she contributed by keeping our heads up and scoring,” she said.
Hucic shouted out to freshman Brooke Brown.
“I think Brooke Brown did particularly well because she, as a freshman, is so confident while running the ball and is never afraid to grab ground balls,” Hucic said.
Iwaniuk agrees with the team having to work on some things and expects the team’s culture to stay positive throughout the season.
“Baldwin can work on making sure we catch the balls when transitioning from defense to attack,” she said. “My expectation is to finish out the season with good spirits.”
“I hope we finish this season strong and keep supporting each other the way we have been. The team’s energy and motivation, even while losing, is unmatched and makes us special,” Hucic said.
The team’s next game is away at Hempfield, on Friday.
