The Baldwin girls lacrosse team defeated Yough on Monday, 20-6.
Senior Olivia O’Malley said Baldwin did well all around.
“We did really well winning the draws and immediately moving the ball into our offensive end,” O’Malley said. “Our defense did a really good job at pressing the ball and making them turn it over, and then we transitioned the ball down into our offensive end.”
Senior Ava Frantz credited the team for working together.
“I think the team played really well together,” Frantz said. “It was clear that everyone was working together to accomplish the same goal.”
O’Malley credited freshmen Brooke Brown and Tessa Super for their performances.
“Brooke did well for being a defender, then switching into attack and being confident with the ball, and she got two goals out of it,” O’Malley said. “Tessa also played well during this game.” Super scored three goals, the firsts of her high school career.
Frantz agreed, adding that “there was never a point in the game that she gave up, and she had great cuts and plays that led to her goals.”
Also scoring for Baldwin were O’Malley, who scored eight goals during the game, followed by sophomores Madelynn Murphy and Namrata Rai as well as freshman Arabelle Eynon, who all scored two goals each, and freshman Gianna Ellgass, who scored her first high school goal.
Despite their loss, O’Malley credited Yough for their aggressiveness.
“They had some players who were really good with working the ball and shot placement,” she said. “They were pretty aggressive on the ground balls.”
Frantz said Yough did well recovering.
“Yough did a good job at getting back into the game after one of their players was injured,” Frantz said.
There are still some things that Baldwin needs to work on, O’Malley said.
“We need to work on setting the ball up more and setting up our plays,” she said.
Frantz added that the team needs to improve on their communication.
“We can improve on talking more on defense,” she said. “We need to sometimes communicate cuts on offense and who is open.”
The team’s next game is against Latrobe at 7:30 p.m. today.
