The Baldwin boys volleyball team won 3-1 against Thomas Jefferson Friday night.
Sophomore Biswas Mongar credited the Baldwin boys team for starting off the game strong.
“From the start, we were playing very well. Our communication and playing are centered very well,” Mongar said.
Despite their win and mindset on the court, senior Dyland Leonhardt feels the team’s play was not up to its usual standard.
“We were pretty aggressive all the time, but honestly, we played a little worse than our standards, in my opinion. So I wouldn’t say we did anything especially well — we just kind of did what we should do, I guess,” he said.
Mongar feels they should improve on ending rallies.
“We need to work on killing the ball because we get most of the free balls, and we don’t use them. We just lack it and then just want to hit straight down,” he said.
TJ was able to put up a strong offensive side.
“They hit around our blocks pretty well. I feel like, especially on the outside, we kept giving them crosses, and they just kept hitting it,” Leonhardt said.
However, the Baldwin boys knew their strengths and used them to their advantage.
“We force-fed our middle a lot because we just knew that our middle was a lot better than theirs,” Leonhardt said.
Senior Austin Kruszewski stood out for the Highlanders, according to Leonhardt.
“Austin Kruszewski probably led our team in blocks and was getting a decent amount of kills for a middle,” Leonhardt said.
Mongar agreed.
“I would say Austin was really good at his blocking. He had a lot of blocks, and they helped us a lot,” Mongar said.
The Highlanders’ next action will be tonight at Upper Saint Clair High School at 4:30 p.m.
