Ken Roczen, the two-time 450 Pro Motocross champion, was able to rally his second win of the season over the weekend in Detroit.
In the main event, Roczen was second off of the start, and he passed for the lead within the first two minutes. He was able to run away with the win and have an eight-second lead as he went over the finish line.
The last time he had multiple wins in one Supercross season was in 2021, when he won three races in a row. Since then, he has logged one win each season.
This win will be a huge motivator for Roczen as he made points up to the championship battle, as well as changing the narrative about his performance at this stage in his career.
In the past few years, Roczen has been known to start hot through the first few rounds of the season but start to slow down and not be as competitive towards the end. This win will help to refute this idea, as well as give him a boost of midseason confidence.
With the two people in front of him in the title fight, Eli Tomac and Hunter Lawrence, not reaching the podium, Roczen moved to only 14 points away from the points lead.
Lawrence’s evening is sure to be one night he would love to forget after a gnarly crash exiting the whoops. He drove himself and his bike right into the dirt. He was able to get up and continue, but not after losing time to fix his brakes, which were locking his front wheel up.
He was able to finish in 18th place at the end of the night. However, being able to finish and score points will help as the season gets deeper, as the last round can come down to one point.
For Tomac, he was able to finish fifth, but he did not look fully comfortable. Tomac rarely pushes himself when he is not fully comfortable on his bike. His fifth place finish helped to put him first in the championship points after Lawrence’s rough night.
On the podium in Detroit, Chase Sexton was able to finish second on his first race back since he pulled out for an undisclosed injury a few weeks ago. Sexton looked solid, but not racing for multiple weeks took a hit on his fitness and it showed.
Third place was fan favorite Malcolm “Mookie” Stewart, the younger brother of “The Fastest Man on the Planet,” James Stewart Jr., who has combined seven Supercross and Motocross titles. Malcolm Stewart, the 2011 Rookie of the Year, was able to race his way into a podium finish, which is good for the whole Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team, after a rough start to the 2026 season.
In the 250 class, Cole Davies won his third straight race in a dominant finish. He was 15th going into the first corner and was able to use the whoops to his advantage again. Whoops are a series of small, closely spaced, steep mounds of dirt, often two to three feet high, where riders typically “blitz” or skim across the tops at high speed, instead of jumping or rolling through them, to gain maximum speed.
Davies entered the weekend with a six-point lead and left with a nine-point lead over Seth Hammaker. To round out the podium, Hammaker placed second and Jo Shimoda placed third.
One notable moment came from an impressive display of control by Devin Simonson. He was able to jump through multiple lanes of the track, while not falling off of his bike or putting another racer in danger.
This weekend, racing goes to St. Louis to the Dome at America’s Center. This race will be the second 250 East/West Showdown, where the best racers in both divisions of 250 racing go head to head. Qualifying starts at 1 p.m. Eastern and the racing action kicks off at 7 p.m. Keep an eye out for Haiden Deegan this weekend, as he looks to try to win the showdown, after a controversial penalty from the last showdown removed his win.
