Baldwin’s indoor percussion and winter guard team competed at Kiski High School over the weekend in the Three Rivers Winter Ensemble Association championships.
Percussion finished in sixth place out of six with a score of 78.50. The guard finished eighth out of 11 with a score of 79.58.
Junior Nora Eckert, a member of the winter guard, said the performances are judged for points on equipment, movement, and general effects. Eckert said that while the guard made a few mistakes, the team performed well overall.
“We had a couple of drops,” Eckert said. “We also had trouble with phasing and going out of time. But we do the ending really well.”
Freshman Oliver Eckert, a member of the indoor percussion team, said the team did well with their “overall expression.”
“That’s something our directors want from us,” Eckert said, referring to “how they look and act.”
He said the battery struggled towards the end because they were still learning their music. For their next performance, the percussion team can improve with note accuracy, Eckert said.
