Baldwin participated in the Rust Buster Invitational on Saturday, turning in strong performances across multiple events.
For the boys, senior Vincent Broccoli placed first in the discus.
“My form in the discus and my power in my throws in shot put went really well,” Broccoli said.
Broccoli also pointed to the team’s overall success in the meet.
“The whole team stood out. It was the first meet, and there were a bunch of personal records, and that’s really not expected,” he said.
Also finishing first was senior Alex Castaneda in the men’s 3,200 meter run, junior Becca Gruntz in the girls high jump, and junior Callen O’Malley in the boys triple jump.
Placing second were junior Logan Breisinger in the boys 300 meter hurdle, Castaneda in the boys 800 meter run, and Gruntz in the girls long jump.
Broccoli also finished third in the boys javelin throw.
Senior Anna Plunkett said she showed improvement throughout her events.
“My throws got better each time I went. I also worked on some habits that have been making my throws inconsistent,” Plunkett said.
She also recognized Broccoli’s performance.
“Vince did really well, getting a PR in both discus and shot put,” she said.
As a team, Baldwin competed well against strong competition, she said.
“The team did really well, showing up against some of our biggest competitors. We had multiple in-section teams there, and we had PRs and good starts for the season against them,” Plunkett said.
