The boys tennis team lost 5-0 against Allderdice on Wednesday.
Senior Laeth Salih played in an exhibition match, which is an extra round that does not count toward the final score. He reflected on Allderdice’s strengths.
“Their serves were really nice,” Salih said. “We struggled a lot to send it back on their serves.”
Junior Joey Maiers, who played in a doubles match with sophomore Brandon Esek, said Allderdice’s team strategized well.
“They discussed how to play against us well,” Maiers said.
Maiers and Salih agreed that senior Nikita Petruk stood out in his singles match for Baldwin.
Since Petruk has been playing since childhood and for the Highlanders since freshman year, he is one of Baldwin’s best players, Maiers said. Aside from Petruk, though, many Baldwin players have less experience.
“Most of us are relatively new or newer to the sport and still learning communication,” Salih said. “We have the basics down, but it’ll come to us with time.”
Since the team roster is also smaller compared to previous years, with no junior varsity this year, they are still figuring out how to adapt in games against teams that have been playing together for a long duration of time.
The team’s next game is today against Trinity.
