The boys volleyball team lost 3-2 away against Norwin on Monday.
Senior Dylan Leonhardt thought that the mistakes they made in a tournament over the weekend got worse against Norwin.
“We let a lot of balls just drop when we should have been playing them,” Leonhardt said. There were “a lot of shank passes that just shouldn’t have happened.”
Junior Ayush Rai said small mistakes hurt the team.
“A group of one or two people will make a mistake, and then that’ll bring the rest of the team down,” Rai said.
Ayush said that the only way to respond to a bad play is to make up for it.
“Move on and make a play. Make up for your mistake,” Rai said.
Rai also thought that one of the team’s main issues was maintaining consistency.
“We gained a lot of momentum and energy from when we did get kills. They were very uplifting kills, but it wasn’t consistent,” Rai said.
The team played well at the tournament over the weekend at Norwin High School.
In their first pool they tied for first, and in their second pool, they placed first. They got a good seed in the top bracket, but lost to Pine-Richland 29-27 in a one-set quarterfinal match.
Rai thought they played their best against Pine Richland and could have won.
“I think that we could have definitely beat Pine Richland, but we made a few careless mistakes that really didn’t let us win,” Rai said.
Leonhardt agreed.
“We let them go on too big of a run without cutting it off,” Leonhardt said. “We were just hitting some balls out of bounds when we shouldn’t have.”
Senior Brayden Gremba played well throughout the tournament, Leonhardt said.
“He was hitting really well the entire tournament, but his serving was probably what he was doing best for this tournament,” Leonhardt said.
Rai is excited to see how the team can perform the rest of the season.
“I think I’m excited for where we are, because when we play good teams like that, it makes us play better,” Rai said.
Baldwin plays at home against Thomas Jefferson at 7:30 pm. Friday.
