The girls flag football team lost 48-6 on Wednesday night against Upper Saint Clair.
USC had more flag football experience than Baldwin. Sophomore Danielle Schanck said the team knew going in that it would be challenging to play against this tough opponent.
“We felt slightly nervous, but we treated it as a learning experience,” Schanck said.
While Baldwin had some good moments, USC’s communication and defense made a big difference. They were able to rush Baldwin’s quarterback and stayed organized and in control throughout the game.
Baldwin showed effort throughout the game and still stayed positive despite the loss. Schanck said sophomore running back Layla Miller really stood out, scoring Baldwin’s only touchdown of the night.
“After I scored everyone’s motivation went up, and I feel our game started to change,” Miller said.
Baldwin noticed some areas that needed some improvement.
“We need to communicate better, supporting each other on the sidelines, and not worrying about who we are playing,” Schanck said. “We need to go into the game thinking we will win this and just play as a team.”
Miller also thinks the team can improve its execution. The team hopes to build more chemistry, get stronger, and continue to improve as the season goes on.
The girls will face Uniontown on Tuesday at Baldwin High School.
