The Baldwin baseball team opened its season with a 13-8 win over West Allegheny on Friday.
Given that it was the first game, the team was pretty happy with how they played.
“Overrall everyone played well, and we all contributed to the win,” junior Logan Siefert said.
The Highlanders started 7-0 in the first inning and had energy going into the second.
Siefert noted that junior Matt Musial started the first inning with a leadoff line drive, which led to a huge, seven-run inning and a great start to the game.
“One thing we will struggle with this season, but will definitely overcome, is finishing our games how we start them, by not slowing down when we have a lead,” Siefert said. “We had runners on base consistently, and I think that is what kept our energy going and was our motivation to not stop.”
Baldwin ran into a little trouble, and West Allegheny played well to make the game closer.
“After we started well, we had a problem with pitching well after and struggled with throwing strikes,” sophomore Hudson McKain said.
Siefert said West Allegheny hit well.
“One thing West A did well was adapting to pitching changes as they got deeper into their bullpen,” Siefert said.
The Highlanders will play next away against West Mifflin at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
