The Baldwin boys lacrosse team opened its season by defeating Thomas Jefferson, 13-1.
Senior Alex Myers believes their success comes from the team culture this season.
“The team did great as a whole. Everyone was uplifting each other, and everybody played really well for our first game of the season,” Myers said.
Myers said his teammates played a really strong game.
“Evan Staudt played really well on offense, and on defense, Kaden (Kicinski) played well. Honestly, everyone had a good game,” Myers said.
Senior Michael Scheob complimented the Highlander’s defense, especially freshman Duncan Kleinhampl and junior Nicholas Dornin’s efforts.
“The goalies played outstanding, with Duncan and Nick only letting up one goal,” he said.
Scheob led the scoring for Baldwin, getting three goals. Senior Josh Staudt, Kicinski, and freshman Connor Seasoltz each had two. Junior Owen McLuckie, sophomore Landon Dine, sophomore Evan Staudt, and junior Dominic Emiliani scored one each.
Myers complimented TJ for their effort.
“The other team stayed in the fight the whole time, which I respect, and they fought for ground balls and played our guys the whole time,” Myers said.
Scheob agreed.
“The other team kept good composure and showed grit,” Scheob said.
Overall, the game boosted Baldwin’s confidence for the rest of the season.
“I think the season is going to go great. This is the first season I’ve played where I felt like everyone really likes each other and I feel like a real team,” Myers said.
Scheob is confident about the team for the rest of the season because of this strong start.
“I think the season is going to go well and we are going to have a winning season if we keep the communication up,” he said.
The team’s next game is away against Freeport at 6:30 p.m. today.
