Baldwin’s indoor percussion and winter guard competed at Homer-Center High School over the weekend.
There was one other team competing against the winter guard. Baldwin came in first with a score of 71.70.
The winter guard had switched things up to increase the intensity of their routine. Four soloists executed their quads really well, junior Melody Latt said
“This competition was a little smaller, and I think that helped ease our nerves because we didn’t have as much competition,” Latt said.
Latt complimented sophomore Sami Hackman, one of the four soloists, as she had been sick the week leading up to the competition, but continued to practice and perform it well.
Latt also complimented Homer-Central’s team.
“I remember watching the home team, and I really liked their show and the concept of it. I think they performed it really well,” she said.
Baldwin’s indoor percussion team, meanwhile, also finished in first. The only other competitor was Homer-Center, and host teams are scored but do not place in these competitions.
Sophomore Gianna Regec said the performance for indoor percussion went really well, “specifically with the drum line. I think we were really locked in, and in time with our hands, and the dynamics all sounded really well,” Regec said.
Junior Skye Magera and freshman Alex Pasquantonio did well with their solos at the beginning of the show, Regec said.
“They really hit their notes well, and that really helped so they could lead us in,” Regec said.
