After a disappointing season, Pitt boys basketball is now left with only one regular-season game, left against Syracuse at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. However, there is hope for the future as Pitt has two decent freshmen in the starting lineup.
Freshman Roman Siulepa and Omari Witherspoon have had breakout seasons for the Panthers throughout the year.
Though Witherspoon only averaged around 7.1 ppg, he has had lots of playing time to help him adapt to the faster pace of a college game and looks ready for next year. Siulepa, on the other hand, averages about 10.1 ppg and is a defensive mastermind on the court.
Against Syracuse, it will be another game where Cameron Corhen will have to be extremely physical inside the paint, and it probably will be a very tough and humbling matchup for the Panthers.
The Panthers lost against Florida State on Wednesday night, but they only lost by one point after being down by almost 30. In the game, DeMarco Minor hit two game-changing threes towards the end, which were clutch for the Panthers, along with Barry Dunning Jr., who consistently kept the team in the game.
Nojus Indrušaitis also had a big game against Florida State. He confidently handled the ball and scored 17 points off the bench, and helped the Panthers lead a comeback against the Seminoles.
On another positive note, the Panthers got a good win recently. Pitt beat California 72-56, which is a good win to have late in the season.
The Panthers still have serious rebuilding to do, which includes hitting the transfer portal hard and considering moving on from their Head Coach Jeff Capel.
In their final game, Pitt will likely lose by about 30 points, and they won’t be able to do anything about it because they are not good enough.
