Baldwin’s indoor percussion and winter guard team competed at Norwin High School over the weekend.
Percussion got first place out of three teams in their competition and the guard team got sixth out of eight.
Freshman Leah Stanley said that her teammate, freshman Steven Winschel, did particularly well.
“My friend, Steven, stood out since he could throw his rifle high,” Stanley said.
The judges were impressed with the standout throw, which helped with the winter guard’s scores.
Junior Nora Eckert praised Stanley for her performance.
“There’s a moment where all four of us go quad, and she goes first and always catches it and does it perfectly,” Eckert said.
The guard faced some struggles going into the competition but they still tried their best.
“I did not feel that confident because we learned a lot of new work the morning of the competition,” Eckert said.
Meanwhile, for the indoor percussion team, Eckert’s brother, freshman Oliver Eckert, stood out, she said.
“He does rack. He plays all sorts of different instruments,” Eckert said.
