A total of five boys and girls basketball players have been named to the Big 56 and All-Section Honors teams this past week.
For the boys, junior Evan Golvash was selected for the first team and senior Max Marzina was selected for the second team. For the girls, senior Jules Ott and junior Lynsey Bernotas were selected for the first team, while senior Laci Bernotas was selected for the second team.
Laci Bernotas said Ott and her sister have been key contributors in the team’s wins this year.
“Jules and Lynsey are our biggest producers. They both average 15 points a game,” Bernotas said. “Having that, and them being able to control the tempo, offense, and defense definitely improved us.”
Playing with her two sisters – including freshman Alia – has helped Bernotas keep a positive attitude throughout the season.
“No matter what I’ve been through, I just wanted to end on a good note while playing with my two sisters,” Bernotas said.
On the boys end, Golvash said he was happy how his teammates kept putting in the effort this season, despite their setbacks.
“Losing those close games to Bethel and Ringgold while also going overtime in the close games where we couldn’t finish was hard,” Golvash said.
The team’s hard work and close bond was shown through their practices and games, he said. The coaching staff and his teammates helped him improve throughout the season.
“My coach just makes me better every day, and the players also push me to be better,” Golvash said.
