Hunter Lawrence was finally able to win his first 450 Supercross race over the weekend. After making his 450 class debut two years ago, he has not had a steady journey through Supercross.
In his first 450 Supercross race, he made so many mistakes that he was not even able to qualify for the night show. After that low point, he made strides throughout the year, progressing in his skills and talent. In 2025, Lawrence showed more progression but a shoulder injury ended his campaign early in Tampa.
Hunter’s brother, Jett, is a 450 Supercross champion and arguably one of the best racers of this generation. Hunter Lawrence’s win on Saturday secures the pair as the second set of brothers to each win a 450 Supercross race.
The first set were James Stewart, who is dubbed the fastest man on the planet, and his younger brother, Malcolm. James, who is a seven-time champion, had his most recent win in the 2014 season. Malcolm won last year in Tampa for his first career win, and in a full circle moment, his older brother was one of the broadcast commentators for that race.
With Hunter Lawrence being the current points leader, he has the opportunity to set the record for the first pair of brothers to both win a 450 Supercross championship.
Jett, sidelined with ankle injury, has been supportive of his brother and has gone on record to say that it is finally time for him to be a 450 class champion.
In second place was Eli Tomac, who has been riding to consistent podiums every weekend, and third place was Cooper Webb, which marked four weeks in a row on the podium for him.
Webb had a slow start to the season, but has been warming up each week. Tomac and Webb can still easily compete with Lawrence each weekend to win the title.
As 250 West racing pauses for a few weeks, the 250 East class started this weekend, and it was not disappointing. Pierce Brown arguably rode the biggest comeback ride of their career.
At the SMX World Championship finale in 2024, Brown beat Haiden Deegan straight up. Going into 2025, Deegan’s team owner, Bobby Regan, went out and signed Brown after a year of progression for the young racer. Regan’s strategy of “if you can’t beat them, you buy them” then worked because Brown showed immense speed at the practice track and then went on to lead laps in his first race with the team.
However, Brown went on to break his vertebrae in his first race with the team. There were questions about whether he would ever be able to race again, but he proved everyone wrong this weekend, going out and winning his first race back. This win also marks his first ever 250 Supercross win.
Second place went to Jo Shimoda, who was returning from a neck and back injury. Third place was Daxton Bennick, which marked his third year in a row of being on the podium for the first round of racing.
Racing takes place in Daytona, Fla., this weekend, during the historic Daytona Bike Week. On Peacock, viewers can view the action during the day. Qualifying starts at 12:30 p.m. Eastern and the racing action fires up at 7 p.m. The eighth event of the year is likely to become another memorable night on the infield of the Daytona International Speedway.
