Baldwin’s indoor percussion and winter guard teams competed at McGuffey High School over the weekend.
There were no other teams competing in percussion, so Baldwin came in first. Guard came in third out of five teams, with McKeesport placing first and Hampton placing second.
Percussion team members said they felt like they had a good performance given that they were in a smaller gym than their home gym, junior Chloe Barnhart said.
Junior Melody Latt was happy with how percussion and guard performed.
“We did pretty good for it being our first TIA – Tournament Indoor Association – competition,” Latt said.
Latt complimented the flag-tosses, especially mentioning freshman Steven Winschel. He adjusted to the new floor-to-ceiling ratio, bringing his toss from a seven – seven spins in the air – down to a six, Latt said.
“It wasn’t our best run, but it was able to top a few people,” Barnhart said.
Their next competition is Saturday at Norwin High School.
