Baldwin girls basketball avenged an earlier regular season loss on Friday, defeating Trinity 49-38 in their first seeding game for states.
“Trinity was our first loss in the section. I think we had a lot of motivation and willpower to get back at them for that,” senior Bella Niles said.
Freshman Alia Bernotas thought the team and the bench had consistent positive energy.
“We were super hyped with our energy on the bench,” Bernotas said. “Everyone is always so excited for whoever is on the court.”
The Highlanders maintained a consistent lead the entire game.
“They started a zone on us, and we broke it with our offense,” Bernotas said. “Then we had three back to back to back plays.”
Hannah Prilla was a standout defender, Niles said.
“We ran a zone, and she did a good job of making sure Trinity didn’t have any easy drives,” Niles said.
The Highlanders had defeated Trinity early in the season but lost to them away in January.
“We were going into the game thinking that it would be super close,” Bernotas said.
The team’s next game is away against Indiana on Tuesday. After that game, the team’s seed for state playoffs will be determined.
“We are really hoping to pull off this win so we can get a higher seed, so we have more favorable match-ups,” Bernotas said.
