Juniors Cooper Sturges, Michael Quallich, and Tyler Geary bowled in the WPIBL Boys Individual Championships on Wednesday.
To qualify, the players must have bowled an average score of 170 or higher in their regular season. Sophomore Joe Renzi also qualified for the match, but he was unable to compete due to being injured.
Sturges qualified with a 174 average.
“It felt good for four of us to make it,” Sturges said. “I was proud of us for going that far.”
But Wednesday was a tough day for the Baldwin bowlers, Sturges said.
“We all could have just played better in general,” Stooges said.
After the match, the top four players at the competition played another game. The top 40 will continue to regionals.
Sturges placed 115 out of 143 so did not qualify to continue. Geary also did not qualify, but Quallich did qualify.
“I hope to keep improving and learning the game more and being more focused on what I’m doing,” Sturges said.
Although this is the end for the individuals, the team as a whole will continue to regionals next Friday.
Senior Rose Becker bowls today in the WPIBL Girls Individual Championship at Mt. Lebanon Lanes at 1 p.m.
