The Baldwin girls’ basketball team defeated Elizabeth Forward 56-52 in a non-section game on Monday.
Though Baldwin had beaten Elizabeth Forward before, it was still a difficult game.
“We didn’t start out very strong in the beginning of the game, but as time went on, we made sure to correct our mistakes and do anything we could to keep the lead,” senior Bella Niles said.
“We stayed very determined. Whenever things went south, we didn’t give up right away,” Niles said. “We just kept a high morale.”
Though freshman Alia Bernotas was not able to play due to an injury, she noticed Baldwin’s strengths in the game.
“Our teamwork was very good, and the coach kept the energy up even when we weren’t playing our best,” Bernotas said.
Some teammates had strong games, such as senior Laci Bernotas.
“My sister Laci did really well,” Bernotas said. “She was the lead scorer and scored 18 points.”
Though it was a hard game, Baldwin learned from its mistakes.
“When we go up against opponents that we think we’re going to beat, we should go with a different mindset so we are ready in case it is a close game,” Bernotas said.
Baldwin’s first playoff game is at home at 7 p.m. Friday against Chartiers Valley.
