The boys basketball team defeated Bethel Park Tuesday night, 75-64.
Sophomore Sadiq Anderson said the Highlanders played a strong game on offense.
“We did well on our scoring side by making open shots and pull-ups,” he said.
Senior Taye O’Toole thought the team’s forwards did well.
“Our bigs did a good job of keeping their bigs off the boards on the offensive and defensive sides,” O’Toole said.
Bethel took an early lead in the game and was in front at the end of the first quarter. Anderson thinks Baldwin could start their games stronger.
“We could improve on defense and playing hard all four quarters,” he said. “I feel like we start off slow during the first quarter.”
The team needs to focus on their offense going forward, O’Toole said.
“As a team, we need to focus on moving the ball, scoring, and closing out games when we are winning in the final minutes,” O’Toole said.
Junior Evan Golvash stood out for Baldwin, scoring 30 points during the game.
Seniors Max Marzina and Nico Macurak also helped the team, with both scoring double digits. Macurak had 17 points, and Marzina had 11 points.
O’Toole gave credit to Bethel Park’s decisions on offense.
“Bethel did a good job of trying to get switches from our guards to bigs, so they would have the mismatch,” O’Toole said.
Bethel Park also ran their offense well, Anderson said.
“Bethel did well on running their plays and getting open looks,” Anderson said.
The team still feels like it has a chance to make it to the playoffs.
“We have a small chance, but if we can get the win on Friday, we will be in,” Anderson said.
The Highlanders’ next game will be at home against section leader Thomas Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
