Haiden Deegan dominated the 250 class this past weekend in Houston for the first triple crown race of the 2026 SuperMotocross World Championship.
A triple crown race consists of three shorter races for the night, with racers scored Olympic style.
Deegan won all three races to score a perfect three-point night. Broadcast commentator Ricky Carmichael, who is considered the GOAT of the sport with a combined 15 Supercross/Motorcross titles, said that Deegan looked to be riding at only 70% effort.
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki racers Levi Kitchen and Cameron McAdoo both rode good races but they were unmatched to the force of Deegan. Kitchen went 2-2-3, staying on the podium all night to secure second place, and McAdoo went 3-3-4 for third place.
At the beginning of the season, Kitchen was considered to be Deegan’s biggest threat in his bid to win another 250 class title. After four races into the year, Deegan seems to be the dominant man in the class. After finishing fourth in the season opener, he has won every race since.
The most 250 class titles won by one person is seven by Carmichael. If Deegan wins the 250 West Supercross title, he will be up to six.Deegan will move up to the 450 premier class this summer, marking the end of the historic 250 run Deegan has been on.
In the 450 class, Cooper Webb, the 2025 Supercross Champion, was able to get his first win of the season. He went 4-2-3 on the night. Although he did not win any of the races, consistency wins a triple crown race.
Hunter Lawrence had a solid night of racing, going 7-1-2 for second place. If he did not wreck in the first race and lose multiple positions, he would have finally won his first 450 Supercross race.
Third place had Ken Roczen going 1-5-4 for a quiet third-place finish. Eli Tomac finished fourth going 3-13-1. His scores could have been winning scores, if he did not wreck in the second race, leading to the uncharacteristic 13th place.
It is uncertain who could run away with the 450 class title, and only time will tell who can come out on top.
SMX Next also had their second race of the year with Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Caden Dudney winning the race. The pipeline for the team looks extremely strong, with multiple kids having professional talent.
Next weekend, the action shifts to Glendale, Ariz., for the fifth round of the year. Fans can tune into the racing throughout the day live on Peacock. Qualifying starts at 12:30 p.m. Eastern and the racing starts at 7 p.m. Another action packed night of racing awaits on Saturday.
