Baldwin’s wrestling team lost to Penn-Trafford in the playoffs 46-24 on Wednesday.
This was Baldwin’s first time competing against Penn-Trafford this year. Junior Dylan Fleming was not expecting the opponent to perform so well.
“We never wrestled them before so it was a surprise seeing how well rounded their team was,” Fleming said. “They were just more aggressive and stronger than us.”
Junior Mikey Griffiths agreed.
“Penn-Trafford was solid in every weight class, while we excel in some and struggle in others,” Griffiths said.
Fleming said the Highlanders’ offense could have been better.
“We could have been on offense more,” Fleming said. “Their defense was too good and it was hard to find a rhythm.”
Griffiths said the team could work on their conditioning and skills.
“Going forward, our conditioning needs to improve and we need to tighten up some of our moves and overall skills,” Griffiths said.
Even though Baldwin lost, Fleming still gave credit to one of his teammates for doing well.
“Ayden Miller from Brentwood did good for us. He got a pin wrestling up two weight classes,” Fleming said.
Griffiths said the Highlanders remain proud of having earlier claimed Baldwin’s first section title since 1988.
“Even though we lost to Penn-Trafford, winning the section is a great stepping stone for the future,” Griffiths said.
The team’s next competition is a dual match at home against Obama Academy at a date to be determined.
