At the Baldwin swim team’s senior rec game on Tuesday against Chartiers Valley, the boys team won while the girls team lost.
Senior Katie Gruendler said it was a close meet overall.
“The girls were pretty close to winning,” Gruendler said. “It was a really close meet, so I was happy that we were able to get up and race.”
Even though the girls team lost, Gruendler said the sprinters on both teams played a crucial role in the team’s success.
“Our sprinters did really well yesterday,” she said. “We have been working on it a lot in practice and it showed in the meet.”
One member of the boys team stood out, Gruendler said, in part because he competed in events that he does not normally participate in.
“Tarik Usanovic stood out yesterday because he was in events that he does not usually do, and he still did well,” Gruendler said. “He had a really good split time on his relay.”
However, the team still has room to improve. Gruendler said they “still need to work on improving (their) starts — especially relay starts.”
Chartiers Valley was very encouraging, Gruendler said, not only to their teammates, but also to Baldwin.
“The other team was really supportive of each other and of us,” she said.
In addition, last night was senior rec, so the environment of the meet was positive, Gruendler said.
“Yesterday was senior rec, so the atmosphere was really good and upbeat,” she said.
Their next meet is Thursday at Plum.
