Oppenheimer (2023)
Grossing almost $1 billion, the historical drama Oppenheimer features outstanding acting from Murphy.
The three-hour movie tells the story of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the development of the first atomic bomb. The movie has stunning visual effects, a strong plotline, and historical accuracy, with a strong soundtrack that uplifts every scene. But the best aspect of the movie is undoubtedly the acting.
With major star power like Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, and more, the movie had no chance of being bad. But the work that every actor put in really pays off when viewers are watching the movie, and especially Murphy’s in the eponymous main role.
The movie would not be what it is without his performance. Not only does Murphy have a similar appearance to the real-life Oppenheimer, but he truly brings the character to life. When put together with Nolan’s amazing screenplay, Murphy makes the character appear complex while also morally gray.
The movie is filled with tense sequences that jump off the screen. From the explosion of the bomb to the courtroom meetings, the stakes are high. Murphy shows the effects that the stress had on Oppenheimer, with him being run down and weary in the scenes set after the bomb, and him being more youthful and healthy before and while working on the bomb.
While some could say the movie is too slow, it is actually just dependent on the dialogue and acting. And when both of those components are executed perfectly, it makes a very striking movie.
