The Patriots defeated the Broncos, and the Seahawks took down the Rams in two extremely exciting conference championship games on Sunday.
The AFC championship game was a defensive masterpiece, as the final score ended at 10-7 with a New England victory.
Broncos quarterback Bo Nix had broken his ankle last week, which forced backup Jarrett Stidham to step up and play against the Patriots. This almost completely shut down the Broncos’ offense – along with a snowstorm that hit in the middle of the game.
Stidham passed for 133 yards, one touchdown, and one interception compared to New England’s Drake Maye, who passed for only 86 yards. Maye was sacked five times, and Stidham only three times.
The snowstorm made it difficult for players to move around in the snow, as RJ Harvey only had 37 yards on 13 carries for Denver, and Rhamondre Stevenson only had 71 yards on 25 carries for the Patriots.
Christian Gonzalez recorded the only interception of the game for the Patriots, and he also got a sack on Stidham.
On the other hand, the NFC championship game was a thriller on the offensive side of the ball. The game ended in a Seattle victory over Los Angeles, 31-27.
Sam Darnold, a former third overall pick for the Jets, threw for 346 yards on 36 attempts and three touchdowns. Darnold’s top receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, caught 10 passes for 153 of those yards and one touchdown.
Additionally, for the Seahawks, Josh Jobe and DeMarcus Lawrence both forced fumbles, which helped sway the outcome of the game.
Though the Rams lost, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has had an MVP-like season, threw for 374 yards and three touchdowns, but he took one sack. For Stafford, Puka Nacua was the top receiver with 165 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Davante Adams also had a few nice catches for the Rams in big moments.
Now, Super Bowl 60 will feature the Seattle Seahawks vs. the New England Patriots. The Seahawks should get their revenge this year against New England, as last time they met, Patriot cornerback Malcom Butler intercepted Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson on the goal line.
