The Baldwin girls basketball team defeated Peters Township 62-54 in a section matchup on Tuesday night.
Senior forward Jacey Klingensmith said junior Lynsey Bernotas played a tough and aggressive game.
“Lynsey played really well,” Klingensmith said. “She attacked the hoop very well and had a lot of good takes.”
The Highlanders were able to space the floor and spread out Peters Township’s zone.
“We spaced the floor very well which led to open driving lanes and open threes,” Klingensmith said.
Klingensmith said the team’s constant energy and high motor propelled them to a victory.
“Our energy from the opening tip was great,” Klingensmith said. “We got out to an early lead and never gave it up.”
With the win, the Highlanders move to 14-2 overall and 6-1 in section. Yet there are still improvements to be made as the season winds down, Klingensmith said.
“We need to improve on swinging the ball from side to side to move the defense more, especially when we play against a zone,” she said.
Peters got a lot of open looks from three-point range.
“Peters had success getting open shots,” Klingensmith said. “We can work on playing defense as a team to prevent that from happening.”
The Highlanders’ next game will be on the road at Trinity at 6 p.m. Friday.
