The United States Women’s National Soccer Team is set to participate in two international friendlies, against Paraguay on Saturday and against Chile on Tuesday.
The first game, hosted in Carson, Calif., will feature a pre-game retirement ceremony for USWNT icon Christen Press. This should be an easy win for the Americans, as they usually dominate the Paraguay team.
The second game, in Santa Barbara, Calif., against Chile, should be another undemanding game. Chile is ranked 47th in the world by FIFA, while America is ranked second.
These are the first two games of an important year for the team, as the 2027 Women’s World Cup is next year. This year will help Head Coach Emma Hayes see players’ abilities and start drafting rosters.
Hayes is hoping to find future talent, including first-time call-ups Maddie Dahlien and Riley Jackson. Both players shone for the under-20 and under-23 teams, and Hayes hopes to see them come through on a bigger stage.
Hayes has been known for featuring fresh faces, as she has debuted more players in her first year as a coach than any other coach before her. This camp features many young, new players.
Every player on the roster plays in the National Women’s Soccer League except for Trinity Rodman, who is currently unattached. Rodman has been a star for the U.S. team, helping the team to a gold medal in the 2024 Olympics.
Rodman only played in one match in 2025 due to injury, and before that, she had not played since the Olympics. Rodman has the most caps and goals on the entire roster, bringing a sense of leadership. Fans hope to see her come back to her full abilities and shine on this young team.
These games should help them gain their footing for 2026, as they are the year openers. Fans are hopeful that 2026 will start successfully, as the American team has not been as dominant as it once was.
The Saturday game against Paraguay will be available on TNT, truTV, and HBO Max. The game against Chile on Jan. 27 will be featured on TBS and HBO Max.
