The Baldwin boys basketball team lost to Peters Township on Tuesday, 72-64.
Sophomore Sadiq Anderson thought Peters did well capitalizing on Baldwin’s mistakes.
“The other team did well on getting rebounds and putting it back up for easy layups,” Anderson said.
Sophomore Bryson Smolko said Peters did well with their defense and shooting.
“Peters shot the ball well from the three, and they played good defense,” Smolko said.
Despite the loss, there were some strong moments for Baldwin.
“We did well on shooting three-pointers and midrange shots,” Anderson said.
Junior Evan Golvash stood out for the Highlanders, Anderson said. Golvash had 17 points.
“Evan had some amazing three-point shots during clutch moments,” he said.
Other standouts included senior Max Marzina with 16 points, senior Nico Macurak with 13 points, and Smolko with 12 points.
The season has been up and down for the Highlanders. This loss puts the Highlanders’ record at 7-7 overall, with a 2-5 section record.
Teams always play section opponents twice each year. Smolko believes Baldwin can win the second section games against the teams that previously defeated them.
“We can still win all of those close games on the way through the second time,” Smolko said.
Moving forward, Smolko believes the team needs to improve their offensive play.
“We need to improve on taking better shots within our offense and rebounding better,” Smolko said.
The team’s next game is away against Uniontown at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
