Baldwin’s unified bocce team lost to South Park 2-0 on Tuesday.
South Park took the victory after winning both of the matches, with the score of the first one being 9-1, and the second being 6-5. Senior Becca Wildes said that one of the hardest parts of facing South Park was trying to get the upper hand.
The team was “just trying to think of strategies that they weren’t already using, because a lot of the strategies we were using, they used as well,” Wildes said.
Baldwin also struggled with accuracy, she said.
“We struggled to roll the balls close to the pallino,” Wildes said.
Despite the loss, there were still some positive moments from the game. Wildes gave a shout-out to fellow senior Kirsten Fohr for her performance.
“During one frame, all of our balls went to the end of the court, and the pallino was stuck in the middle,” Wildes said. “So she used her last ball to hit the pallino closer to our balls at the end.”
Overall, the team did a good job of using the court to give them an advantage.
“We used the walls, basically angling the ball to hit it off the wall so it would go closer to the pallino,” Wildes said.
For the future, Wildes said the team needs to focus on working on their strategies during practices.
With this loss, the team’s record is now 2-1. Their next match is away at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Steel Valley.
