Co-Principals John Saras and Brandon Whitfield are among a group of area administrators who have been named Most Valuable Principals in a program sponsored by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Whitfield is proud that he and Saras were among the honorees.
“It’s special to me to know that the work that we’re doing is being recognized and the things that we’re doing at Baldwin High School are being recognized on a different level,” Whitfield said. “I think it’s a cool opportunity for us.”
Saras said the students and the school faculty are deserving of such recognition as well.
“It’s a reflection of the students that we have in the building, and it’s the teachers that we have at Baldwin High School,” Saras said. “It just so happens that the award falls under MVP, but it’s more than that: It’s a reflection of what we do as an entire group.”
The co-principals were nominated by history teacher Chris Reilsono.
Each Penguins’ MVP recipient will receive $1,000 for a school initiative, a Pens “prize pack,” a customized Penguins jersey, and a ticket to a Pens game. Saras and Whitfield are waiting to find out the guidelines for the school prize money, but plan to use it for something that benefits students.
