The girls basketball team boosted its winning streak to 11 by defeating Bethel Park 42-35 on Friday.

Freshman Alia Bernotas said the team had a lot of energy and was well prepared going into the game.

“Since it was senior night we had a lot of energy,” Bernotas said. “We planned for this game, went over a lot of plays, and watched lots of film.”

All of the seniors performed very well, Bernotas said.

Bethel Park, however, also came into the game with a lot of energy.

“They have always been a big competitor for us, so they were prepared, and their coach was ready too,” Bernotas said.

The Highlanders have had a successful season thus far, with an overall record of 11-1 and a section record of 5-0. Bernotas said the key to their success has been staying disciplined and focusing on teamwork.

Going into future games, the team can focus on their mindset.

“When we’re playing worse competition, we cannot think they’re worse,” she said. Instead, they have to “go into it like it’s a big game,” Bernotas said.

The team’s next game is away against Thomas Jefferson, another team with an undefeated section record, at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
