The boys basketball team won one game and lost another in the West Allegheny Tournament over break.
In their first game, the Highlanders lost to Erie McDowell, 76-66. Their next game was against West Allegheny, which they won, 58-45.
Senior Taye O’Toole said sophomore Nolan Macurak was a standout for the Highlanders throughout the tournament.
“Nolan Macurak came in and had about eight points in both games, and that’s really good stepping up as a sophomore like that,” O’Toole said.
Both of the teams that Baldwin played had good defenses, he said.
“They did a good job making us uncomfortable offensively, not giving us anything easy,” O’Toole said.
O’Toole said that for the remainder of the season, addressing that issue will be a focus for the Highlanders.
“We can improve on running our offenses quicker – try to speed teams up more and make them uncomfortable instead of them making us uncomfortable,” O’Toole said.
Going into the final stretch of the season, the team will also work on tightening up other aspects of their game.
“Based off of the two games, we’ve got to work on being able to guard, talking to each other on defense, and just doing the little things, as the little things will win us games,” O’Toole said.
The team’s overall record is 5-4, and the section record is 1-2.
Their next game is an in-section contest at Ringgold on Tuesday.
