Due to weather conditions and the loss of power this past Friday, the boys basketball team had to delay its Friday game against Trinity for 24 hours to Saturday evening. But even with that delay, the Highlanders were able to secure a 66-49 win.
Senior Taye O’Toole said the team went into the game with a confident mindset despite the delay.
“It definitely felt kind of weird, but our team came together as a whole to get ready. We had a shoot around before the game in order to get ourselves mentally prepared,” O’Toole said.
This moves Baldwin to 1-1 in their section record. Senior Max Marzina said the team is off to a good start this season.
“I think that everybody is getting better every game. We were inexperienced, but now that everybody is starting to get more experience by playing, they’re beginning to feel more comfortable while on the court,” Marzina said.
Marzina said Sadiq Anderson particularly stood out on Saturday.
“I went out in the fourth quarter and didn’t play, and Sadiq stepped up. He made big plays rebounding and shooting, and overall played a very solid game,” Marzina said.
O’Toole agreed.
“He had 17 points, which is a really good game for him, especially being a sophomore,” O’Toole said.
Looking ahead at the rest of the season, Marzina said improving their defense is key.
“We have to put up better defense to win better games,” Marzina said.
O’Toole said communication plays a big part in their defense and needs to be worked on.
“Defensively we have to communicate more. Talking to each other and getting help on defense is important,” O’Toole said.
Baldwin faces South Fayette, another sectional opponent, at home tonight, with tip-off at 7:45 p.m.
