The Baldwin girls basketball team defeated Peters Township 58-51 on Tuesday in the team’s first section game.
Senior Laci Bernotas said this was the first time the Baldwin girls had defeated Peters since she joined the team four years ago.
The game started very back and forth, Bernotas said. However, by the second quarter, Baldwin’s energy levels were high, she said.
“By the second quarter, we just had a lot of momentum on our side of the court,” Bernotas said.
Senior Isabella Niles agreed.
“We just really wanted to win. We were very competitive. We wanted to do our best,” Niles said.
The standout player from the team was senior Jules Ott, Niles said.
“Jules Ott had 25 points. She was huge for our game,” Niles said.
Niles said that as long as Baldwin works on consistency, more wins will follow. On Tuesday, the Highlanders struggled with scoring during one quarter, she said.
“We need to stay consistent with scores throughout the game,” Niles said.
Peters did well with their shooting. But Baldwin’s team “just outran them,” Bernotas said.
The team’s next game is at home at 6 p.m. Friday against Trinity.
