In Pittsburgh’s 28-15 win over Miami on Monday, Steelers corner Asante Samuel Jr. got a pick early on an underthrown pass from Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa.
Before this year, Samuel had been a rising star cornerback for the Chargers, but then he broke his back just before his contract ended. The Chargers were unwilling to re-sign the young star for fear he would not return to his previous position.
With the win over the Dolphins, Samuel helped positively lead the Steelers defense with his first real chance back on the field since 2023. If he can continue to play like he did Monday night, then he will rise up and become a star in the NFL.
On the other hand, Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen continues to be a team cancer. Monday night, he continued to get into stupid, small scuffles with Dolphins players as he did earlier against the Bills.
These scuffles stem from a lack of discipline within the team and also hurt the momentum that the offense had brought to the defense.
Though the Steelers should not get rid of the linebacker, they should definitely restrain him before he becomes a bigger, more noticeable problem.
One moment from Monday night that showed how football is not only about winning came after Minkah Fitzpatrick’s injury. Fitzpatrick was traded to the Dolphins earlier this year, and in return, the Steelers received Jalen Ramsey.
While Fitzpatrick was down on Monday night, both sidelines stood up and even prayed for him, while athletic trainers helped him off the field. This moment showed how football can bring people together.
Monday’s victory gives the Steelers an 8-6 record.
The atmosphere of Acrisure Stadium was electric all night, especially when receiver DK Metcalf made a 29-yard touchdown reception. Aaron Rodgers showed signs of his younger self as he passed for two touchdowns and 224 yards, and went 23 for 27 on pass attempts.
At kickoff, it was 20 degrees out, but felt like less than 10. The Dolphins now move to 0-6 now in games below 40 degrees.
The Steelers still do not have an easy road to the playoffs, with two divisional games against the Browns and Ravens. Going into next week, the Steelers have a 63% chance to win the division now, and they play the Lions, at Ford Field at 4:25 p.m. Sunday.
With three weeks of regular season football left, the Steelers seem to be moving in a positive trend, towards postssason hopes.
