Badwin’s wrestling team defeated Upper Saint Clair 46-31 on Wednesday.

Junior Dylan Fleming said junior Moe Amini played a key role in the win.

“(Amini) did really well,” Fleming said. “He had the dual winning match and had a tech fall win,” he said.

Fleming also gave credit to freshman Shamil Islamov.

“Shamil looked great. He wrestled a pretty tough kid and fought hard,” Fleming said. “He was able to get a fast pin and put us in the lead to start.”

The team had great morale and that was another factor in the win, Fleming said.

“We were hyped the whole game and if someone did not do great, they picked themselves up and everyone was supportive,” he said.

Although the Highlanders won, Fleming said that there were things that they could improve on.

“Our middle weights did not have the best match and we just got pinned down a lot,” he said.

Upper Saint Clair fought a strong match, he said.

“They were really good at fighting off their backs,” Fleming said. “They also took down and scored on some of our better guys, which was impressive.”

The team’s next competition is the Hampton Duals at Hampton High School on Saturday.
