Dr. Janeen Peretin, the district’s assistant to the superintendent, is one of two women who has been nominated for a national school leadership award.
Peretin was nominated for the American Association of School Administrators Women in School Leadership Award for her dedication to her job and the school community.
“The awards, presented by AASA in partnership with Horace Mann Educators Corporation, recognize outstanding female leaders who have made significant contributions to education,” the association said.
Peretin was surprised but grateful to be chosen as a finalist from the pool of nominees.
“I hadn’t given the nomination much thought since submitting the packet months ago, so learning that I was chosen as one of just two women across the country was overwhelming in the best way,” Peretin said.
She was nominated by McAnnulty Principal Patricia Fusco.
“Mrs. Fusco, the principal at McAnnulty Elementary School, nominated me, which makes it even more special to me because I started my journey in our district as a student at McAnnulty many years ago, and to be recognized by a colleague is an honor in itself,” Peretin said.
Peretin has worked in the district since 2003. She has been a math teacher at Baldwin High School, as well as holding other leadership positions in the district.
She said that her experience growing up in the district motivates her daily.
“The behind-the-scenes work that I see continues to inspire and motivate my commitment to creating more opportunities for every student who now sits in the same seats I once did,” Peretin said. “When I think about the world our students will inherit, I’m driven to ensure they have the school experiences that help them grow the confidence and skills they’ll need to thrive in the future they choose.”
