The boys and girls swim teams won their home meet against Carrick on Friday.
Overall, the first meet of the season went well, despite numerous cancellations, senior Katie Gruendler said.
“Baldwin did well at getting everyone together and up for their events at the right time, as well as getting everyone used to how the meets run,” Gruendler said. “The first meet can be a little chaotic, but this one went smoothly.”
Junior Tarik Usanovic said the team performed well and tried hard.
“I think as a whole the team did well because everyone tried their hardest in their events, even though many of the members are new,” he said.
Many swimmers did well throughout the meet, Gruendler said, like senior Brayden Kuch.
“Brayden Kuch stood out for the boys because he had to do the 500 — which is not his normal event — and he did really well,” she said.
Usanovic agreed.
“He did the 500 free for the first time and had a pretty good time in it. He also swam the 50 free and got his best time in it,” Usanovic said.
For the girls, many freshmen performed well, especially freshman Melina Altieri, Gruendler said.
“The new freshman girls did really well too. It was their first meet and they were all swimming new events. Melina Altieri did really well in her first 200,” she said.
The Carrick team lost, but Gruendler said they still “did well at being supportive for each other.”
“There were only around six of them, so they were not able to swim most of the events, but they were supporting each other when they were able to swim,” she said.
The next meet is a home meet today against Keystone Oaks.
