A spot in the college football playoffs could be at stake on Saturday when Alabama faces off against Georgia in the SEC championship game.
The SEC is the best and most competitive conference in college football with some of the hardest teams to beat, including the Texas Longhorns and the Auburn Tigers.
Georgia is currently ranked second in the SEC, behind only Alabama. Georgia’s current record is 11-1 and 7-1 in conference. Georgia lost to Alabama earlier in the season, 24-21. Alabama leads the Bulldogs in their all-time series 45 to 26, with four ties.
Georgia had a few holes in its defense during the teams’ first meeting this year, as Ty Simpson, the Crimson Tide quarterback, passed for 276 yards and two touchdowns. The majority of those yards went to wide receivers Isaiah Horton and Ryan Williams, who had 102 yards combined. Horton had one touchdown and Germie Bernard also had a receiving touchdown.
However, Georgia did not do all that badly, as their running back Chuancey Bowens had 119 yards on only 12 carries and a touchdown. Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton also threw a touchdown to their top receiver that game, Colbie Young.
If Alabama loses this game, they could be left out of the college football playoffs. It would be their third loss of the season, coming after losses to Oklahoma and Florida State.
But Alabama is currently 10-2 with a conference record of 7-1. The Crimson Tide should be able to pull off another close win against Georgia, as Ryan Williams and fellow receivers should be able to torch the Georgia defensive backs for big gains.
