Enjoy the last ride of the “Big Three.”
The Pittsburgh Penguins have had their rough patches throughout the years. Many players have moved on from the team, but not Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang.
These three players have made a huge impact on the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.
The “Big Three” are nearing the end of their careers, but still performing for the Pens. They may not be performing just like they used to when they were first brought to the Pens, but are still making an impact.
The three combined have won three Stanley Cups together, and also hold the record for the longest-lasting trio on one team in the NHL – 20 seasons. Fans have truly seen the three go through everything.
Crosby is still putting up great numbers for the team despite his age. Letang and Malkin do not perform like they used to, but they definitely have their certain roles.
The Penguins still have not signed Malkin for the upcoming season. Some media reports have said the Pens have no plans to re-sign him, while others have said the team will discuss the future with Malkin later in the season.
Malkin has considered his future and said recently that he could not imagine playing for anyone else or anywhere else. If the Pens do not extend his contract by the end of this season, this will be his last year wearing black and gold.
All three of their contracts come up very soon, leading to the end of an era. Fans are soon going to have to face the fact that they will not be Penguins forever.
Fans have enjoyed watching the three grow as players and leaders. Crosby is the team’s captain and many fans could not imagine someone else having that role. With him getting older, they are going to have to start looking for another contender.
The future for the Penguins is bright, with all of the new prospects they have brought in. The rebuild has started off very strong, giving fans the hope they need with the big three moving on.
