Now in his fourth season in the NFL, former Steelers wide receiver George Pickens has so far been statistically one of the best receivers in the NFL in his first season with the Dallas Cowboys.
Pickens throughout the first 11 weeks of the NFL regular season has been consistently placing among the best receivers in the league in terms of receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, and first downs. After his recent game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Pickens has put himself at 908 receiving yards and 50 receiving first downs, placing second in the NFL, just behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba in both stats as of his last game.
This weekend Pickens and the Cowboys face off against the Philadelphia Eagles at home in a Week 12 Sunday night game.
Pickens had played for the Steelers for the first three years of his career, but he suffered from behavioral issues and had conflicts with the coaching staff and teammates. Yet Pickens this year has been building good chemistry with his Dallas teammates and his quarterback Dak Prescott.
While many people expected him to get worse over time, it appears he’s completely flipped the narrative with the Cowboys.
What sets Pickens apart from other receivers in the league is his ability to make excellent contested catches that would be almost impossible for other receivers. This, combined with his good field vision and speed, allows him to make great plays for his team in situations where they need an offensive spark to boost.
Although during certain moments he may not be able to get good separation and routes, his catching talent almost completely compensates for this weakness. Overall, after being traded to the Cowboys, Pickens has become one of the most complete receivers in the league and will be a contender for one of the top wide receivers in the NFL.
