The Steelers face a big decision on whether or not to start veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers or backup Mason Rudolph in Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.
During the first half of the Steelers’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday, Rodgers was seen holding onto his left wrist after taking a hit. He was taken out of the game in the second half, and Rudolph played the rest of the game.
After an exam, it was determined that Rogers had a slight fracture in his wrist. It is possible that he could return to play this Sunday.
This decision will be hard for the Steelers because Rudolph played pretty well in the second half vs the Bengals. He threw for 127 yards and had one touchdown through the air in one half.
Rudolph has proven that he can be a solid backup, especially during 2023, when he helped the Steelers win three games in a row so they could reach the playoffs.
Even though Rudolph played well last Sunday, Rodgers has always been historically great against the Bears. So the Steelers might want to start him, even if he´s still dealing with the injury.
Ever since the Green Bay Packers drafted Rodgers in 2005, one of his main goals has been to always beat the Chicago Bears. He delivered on that, compiling a 25-5 record against them, for an incredible 82 percent win rate, and leading some players and fans to jokingly call him “the owner of the Bears.”
But even if he´s able to play, this is a completely different Bears team from previous years.
The Bears, under first-year Head Coach Ben Johnson, have a 7-3 record and are leading the NFC North. They have a chance to win the division for the first time since Mitch Trubisky was the QB in 2018.
Even though Rudolph played well last Sunday, it would be a good choice for the Steelers to go with Rodgers because of his success against the Bears throughout his career.
The Steelers have a big decision to make before Sunday, and this game could help determine whether the Steelers win the division or fall behind the rival Ravens.
