The Baldwin ice hockey team lost to Wheeling Park 5-1 on Monday night.
Senior captain Nate Buys said Wheeling Park was able to beat Baldwin with their speed.
“The other team was consistent and played with a lot of speed,” Buys said.
The game was tied 1-1 until the third period. Then Wheeling Park took advantage of some power plays that Baldwin gave them.
“We have to work on being organized on the penalty kill and staying out of the box,” senior assistant captain Mack Dempsey said.
Junior assistant captain Jacob Kearcher also noted that when the Highlanders get down, they need to keep playing.
“We need to work on playing through the whole game and not giving up when we’re down a couple of goals,” Kearcher said.
Dempsey said that Kearcher’s play was a bright spot for the Highlanders.
“Jacob Kearcher stopped a lot of rushes on defense and put a lot of shots on net from the point,” Dempsey said.
Dempsey scored the team’s only goal.
Baldwin faces off against Cathedral Prep away tonight.
