The Baldwin competitive cheer team won first overall in both mat and gameday divisions at the UCA Allegheny regional competition over the weekend at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
This was the team’s first time competing at a regional level. Freshman Tessa Super said the competition felt larger than normal.
“It was exciting. There were a lot of teams, so it was a nice surprise,” she said.
Senior Lily Rock believed that the win was earned through their work at practice.
“The win felt great,” Rock said. “We all felt so proud of ourselves and it felt like all the hard work paid off.”
Rock applauded junior Cali Chraska for the energy she brought to the team.
“Cali Chraska stood out,” Rock said. “She’s always putting in her full effort and encouraging others on the mat.”
Super agreed.
“She’s always in a good mood and tries to make the team come closer together,” Super said.
Even with their success, there is always room for improvement.
“I think we can improve on hitting stunts on mat, but I think we did really good with being sharp and loud in game-day,” Rock said.
The team’s next competition is Dec. 6 at Bishop McCort.
