Baldwin’s competitive cheer team placed first in gameday and second in mat at a competition in Butler on Sunday.
Senior Vivien Skalos said junior Lily Weidensall impressed for the Highlanders.
“For being a new flyer, (Weidensall) is doing really well with learning how to do our stunts and fitting right into our team, even though she has never done high school cheer before,” Skalos said.
Skalos also praised the team’s tumbling abilities.
“Our tumbling was really good,” Skalos said. “Everyone threw what they needed to and landed. Everyone also tumbled at the right time.”
Their gameday routine went really well, Skalos said.
“Something that stood out to me was how well we performed our gameday routine,” Skalos said. “Our chant was really good and got the crowd engaged, which is what we want to happen.”
Despite the success in both categories, senior Julz Weiss said there are some things to improve on.
“We can improve on our technique in stunts and also in other points during the routine especially when we are tired,” Weiss said.
The team’s next competition is the UCA Regionals on Nov. 16 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
