In a showdown between the last two undefeated teams in the league on Thursday afternoon, Baldwin’s Marvel Rivals team defeated Canon-Mac 2-1.
Senior Zach Czapko said the match was tense immediately.
“It was a stressful game,” Czapko said. “In game one, we missed a critical ban, and they rolled us with that character.”
Junior Ava Kelly said Canon-Mac snuck up on Baldwin often in that first game.
“They were really good at sneaking up on us. We were rarely prepared for it,” Kelly said.
After that, Baldwin used one of their character bans on that character and was able to win the final two games.
“We had to take a break to cool off after the first game. But once we did, we were able to get the two wins,” Kelly said. “It was pretty shocking. We were so stressed, I thought we were going to lose.”
With the win, Baldwin is now the only undefeated team left in the league. Czapko attributes the team’s success to the effort they put into preparing for each game.
“A lot of what I would attribute our wins to is our prep time,” Czapko said. “We come in on Mondays to do match reviews against our opponents, and then on Tuesday, we have actual practice. So we try to run teams that we think will do well against their team.”
The team’s next game will be on Thursday.
