Atlanta-based rapper Ken Carson expands on his unique style of rage-rap with his new album, More Chaos.
This follows what could be considered his magnum opus album, A Great Chaos, which was released in 2023.
Carson is talented at making his messy style feel put together. His flows are unpredictable and aren’t always exactly timed with the beat. It adds a lot of character and authenticity to his sound that his lyrics cannot always bring.
This album has moved Carson even deeper into the mainstream. He has remained at the center of the rage music scene. And while the rage genre has become quite popular with artists like Yeat and Playboi Carti, Carson hasn’t “sold out” to the mainstream as much as some artists have. He allows his experimentation to come naturally.
The best song on the album is “Off the Meter ft. Playboi Carti & Destroy Lonely.” Its replay value comes from the catchy hook and a sci-fi sounding beat produced by Starboy. Carson completely carries the song, easily outrapping both Destroy Lonely and Carti.
Still, this album could have been better with less repetition within the beats. The constant 808 hits do not always sit well with all listeners, but it is the staple of Carson’s sound.
The name fits very well with the album. More Chaos seemed unorganized, thrown together, and overly loud, which describes chaos.
Overall, More Chaos is not close to A Great Chaos in terms of Carson evolving his sound, but it is definitely a good album that will be talked about for years to come.
